Single life looks good on Toni Braxton.

After squashing rumors of a marriage to her ex-fiancé Birdman late last year, the R&B icon is open to finding romance in Sin City as she prepares for her Love & Laughter residency with Cedric the Entertainer at the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

"Single is nice," Braxton, 56, tells PEOPLE. "I haven't practiced it yet, but I'm going to soon 'cause I've been wrapped up in this show."

"I am looking forward to getting out there and dating. I mean, dating can be scary too. It can be a little bit," adds the seven-time Grammy winer. "But a nice guy, someone who will watch Lifetime with me all day long — [or] at least once in the week."

"It might be a little difficult," quips Braxton. "I'll take my time."

In December, the "Un-Break My Heart" singer took to Instagram and squashed rumors that she'd gotten married to Birdman, whom she was previously set to marry before they called off the engagement in 2019 — though they've reportedly since dated on and off.

"My dear friend @birdman and I are not married...never been married," she said at the time. "We are both single."

Braxton was previously married to singer-songwriter Keri Lewis from 2001 to 2013, and they share sons Diezel Ky, 20, and Denim Cole, 22.

The "He Wasn't Man Enough" musician is getting ready to kick off the seven-date Love & Laughter residency on April 27, and the show will be quite unique, combining her singing talents and Cedric's comedic skills as somewhat of a throwback to live variety programs. "They're going to see a show like Sonny and Cher or Donny and Marie," she teased to PEOPLE.

"It's not like I'm going to go on stage first, and then Cedric performs. We're coming out together, in different acts, and we intermingle between those acts for funny bits. And this man is so talented — he can really sing," added Braxton. "He's, like, a triple threat. I had no idea."

Inversely, Cedric was also impressed by the breadth of Braxton's onstage abilities. "We know Toni from the beautiful love ballads and everybody just kind of sees her as this sultry sultress, but she likes to have a good time," he told PEOPLE. "She's not gonna be telling jokes jokes — but she is funny."
