Stolen car suspect arrives to court … in another stolen car

A California man attended his court appearance earlier this month to face charges of possession of a stolen vehicle. However, showing up to court in another stolen vehicle was not the brightest idea.

Timothy Frederick Knight, 53, arrived at the Daly City courthouse in a stolen vehicle to attend the hearing for his prior vehicle theft charge.

According to police, Knight is a long-time car thief with seven prior felony convictions.

But Knight decided it was necessary to steal yet another vehicle in order to make his court appearance.

“He obviously wanted to make sure he didn’t fail to appear,” District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe told the San Mateo Daily Journal.

On April 2, Knight reportedly stole a Honda Accord the night before the court hearing and police found the car on the street. The Vehicle Theft Task Force then secretly placed a tracker on the car, and as Knight was leaving the courthouse in his shiny new stolen car, police swarmed the vehicle, and Knight was caught … again.

According to police, the screwdriver that Knight used to punch the ignition was still on the floor inside vehicle.

Now facing a second vehicle theft charge, Knight remains in custody with a $65,000 bail for the first charge and a $100,000 bail for the second.

Knight has pleaded ‘not guilty’ and appeared in court Wednesday to set a June 16 jury trial.
