Doctor Who's Millie Gibson praises "special" episode in heartfelt message
Doctor Who star Millie Gibson has praised a “special” episode with a heartfelt message on social media.
The BBC series returned earlier this month as the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Gibson) embark on a series of adventures, with the latest episode, ‘73 Yards’, following the companion as she searches for the Time Lord whilst being followed by a mysterious woman.
Gibson, who previously played Kelly Neelan on Coronation Street, revealed via Instagram that she had a special connection to the episode, with the script being the first one that she read after securing the part of Ruby.

“73 Yards was the very first script I read for our series of Doctor Who,” she began, with the post also including several photos of her on the set for the episode. “I remember closing it and re-reading it again straight away.
“It has such a special place in my heart; I didn’t know Ruby, I didn’t know what her story was going to entail, and I didn’t know anyone at Doctor Who either. During filming this episode, I experienced everything for the first time that Ruby was experiencing too.
“I grew and learnt so much as an actress and as a person. When I watch this episode, I feel such a sense of fulfilment and joy. This particular journey has been very nostalgic to see back and I am just so happy to have accomplished 73 Yards.

Whilst ‘73 Yards’ has received positive reviews since its airing on Saturday (May 25), attention has already turned to the next episode, ‘Dot and Bubble’, with showrunner Russell T Davies teasing that it would share similarities with Black Mirror.
“This is probably our clearest step into Black Mirror territory, which I love,” he said. “I'm a huge fan of Charlie Brooker. He's immensely brilliant. But there's a little bit more freedom and Doctor Who madness in 'Dot and Bubble'. There's a sense of fun, and monsters in the middle of it.”
Doctor Who debuts new episodes at midnight on Saturday, airing on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
