🦈 Don't panic.

Why scientists say not to be spooked by recent shark attacks. Hunter Biden's gun trial heads to the jury for deliberations. And a look at what Apple has in store for the future.

👋Hey there! Laura Davis here. Ready for Monday’s news? Let’s dive in.

🧠 But first: An FDA panel endorsed a promising experimental Alzheimer's drug. What to know about donanemab.

There’s something in the water

Where there is warm salt water, you're likely to find fish. Sharks love fish. Humans love warm salt water. It can be a deadly combination. And even after a pair of shark attacks off the Florida coast left three people injured last week, experts say beachgoers shouldn't be alarmed. (But you should always be aware of dangerous marine life.)

More people, more problems: The number of shark attacks and deaths went up last year, but recent numbers are not out of the ordinary. So far this year, shark bites have decreased. But when warm weather brings more people to the shorelines where sharks feed on fish, the chance of an attack goes up. 🦈 Here's what to know.

The jury has it

Hunter Biden’s trial on federal gun charges is now in the hands of the jury. Those 12 Delaware residents will decide whether Biden illegally bought and owned a revolver while he was an unlawful drug user or addict.

What’s going on: The president's 54-year-old son faces a maximum of 25 years in prison if convicted of all three felony charges: lying on a federal screening form, lying to a gun dealer and possessing the gun. But first-time offenders on nonviolent charges are typically given shorter sentences. The trial is historic because Biden is the first child of a sitting president to be tried for a crime. 👉 Follow our live updates.
